Just observed the same thing with Kubuntu 8.04. Never noticed before,

Thats happing in Fesity Fawn release. When use Kmail with imap, the
service imap4 uses all memory RAM and SWAP... Some times also consume
all CPU too. Only rest the reboot of system...
