@Eric, my patch does not apply to your hardware, it applies only to
7720g. According to comment #36, the patch is not yet fully functional
as the subwoofer volume is not controlled by the right mixer control.

I have tested the patch on my 7720g laptop.

Would it be possible for someone with the hardware to test this patch?
It should be applied on top of Takashi's daily snapshot. If this doesn't
say you anything, let me know and I'll make a dkms package for you as
well. That would require you to run Maverick though.

an ALC268, which does not have a subwoofer/LFE output...

Yes a subwoofer or you can call it a 3rd speaker if you want. It's a
good feature since most of Laptop have very small speakers more like
twiters you have a litle bit more bass. :-)

sorry brad this is still a problem . even with the new release but I've kinda
give up . Im sure its solvable though!

I also have the same problem with a ACER 8735G that as a internal
subwoofer.
I install linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic
restart
check all ouput volume with Gnome ALSA mixer
There is no output for subwoofer.
playback sound, nothing for the subwoofer
I install linux-alsa-driver-modules-2
after researching this bug on-line it is comon to all 7720g with a sub-woofer
on all Linux platforms.
i have not found any solutions.
perhaps contact with the alsa project directly would advance things!

aptitude lol )
i rebooted and ran 2.6.31-19-generic added the ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa to the
software sources .

tested it no sound
Can you please try the latest alsa-driver? It's linux-alsa-driver-
modules-2.6.31-19-generic from the ubuntu-audio-dev PPA. Make sure that
you're using 2.6.31-19-generic (see uname -r).

hi yeah installed the backport linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic,
rebooted .. first there was no sound at all, then i did a update got the sound
but no bass through speaker .. i found in alsamixer alot of extras tho
-master- -pcm- -line in- -mic boos- -captur-
Please try installing the package linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-
generic and rebooting. Then test to see if the speakers you wish to
function are now working, and report back with the results of your test.
