Adding a /etc/modprobe.d/plusb.conf:
alias usb:v067Bp2501d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip* plusb
install plusb /sbin/modprobe plusb; echo 067b 2501
/sys/bus/usb/drivers/plusb/new_id
has no effect either, this is with a slightly older chipset

Having the same problem with Prolific PL2501 usb bridge. Its listed and
recognized as a usb device but unusable.
