Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

This is a duplicate of Bug #517381, but I can not seem to get this
ubuntu-bug process to tie the two together.

The screen resolution sporadicly drops to 800x600x60 rather than
1024x768x75 when the GDM is started. After logging in there are no other
resolution options available. My wife's fix has been to login and log
back out. My fix has been to restart the GDM daemon via a CLI session.

If there is anything I can do to help resolve this, please let me know.

BTW, I have another Dell computer and monitor doing the same thing with
an older version of Ubuntu, I'll try to add a bug report for that one
soon.
