ted, are you sure you are still facing a problem of unreadable text?
I mentioned this problem to ryan earlier and he had fixed it. The ubuntu theme
now forces the font color for the text too.
[since changing the color of the background would mean ubuntu theme would not
look the same ;) , for
Ted, it looks as this bug has been fixed for Lucid!

I would say that making the text unreadable is a bug. It makes Gwibber
unusable.
