Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-notifier

1. Click the "New updates are available" icon in the notification area
2. Enter password
3. Update notifier window appears and calculates dependancies
4. Boom! X server dies a death and restarts

This has just started happening this morning. Using Ubuntu Dapper with
nvidia (proprierty) drivers. No other programs running. Dual head
setup (seperate screens, no TwinView or Xinerama).

The first time it happened, I got a nice stack trace from the Xorg log,
but (being not entirely awake) forgot to save it. Instead, what happens
now is:

*** If unresolved symbols were reported above, they might not
*** be the reason for the server aborting.

Backtrace:
0: /usr/bin/X(xf86SigHandler+0x86) [0x80b4a56]
1: [0xffffe420]
2: [0xb73d1ffb]

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting

This is reproduceable every time I start update-notifier.

** Affects: update-notifier (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Untriaged
         Status: Unconfirmed
