@Mathouse
The mainline kernels are made available for test purposes only.
Again, if you cannot reproduce this with the released Karmic kernel,
this is Invalid.
@Tony
Bug also exist on standard kernel 2.6.31-20-generic.

@Mathouse
Have you tried disabling Compiz as mentioned above ( goto System : Prefs
: Appearance / Visual Effects, and change to none )?
X freezes are usually caused by poor graphics drivers. Give it a try
and see if it makes a difference for you.

Same problem for me.
Ubuntu 9.10 - clean install
kernel 2.6.31-14-generic
P4 dual 3.2 GHz

Boot is fine to login window. On login, system freezes (no keyboard,
mouse; requires hard reboot) shortly after. I noticed that
I use only released kernels, and see sporadic mouse freezeups when the
network-manager is doing something. Yesterday, my Jaunty system froze
when accessing the nm menu. I have wireless turned off with a manual
switch, but use network-manger for my usb mobile/modem connection. I
had no other

Hi,
As you suggested me , I tried with kernel 2.6.32.6 cause don't have any other.
I now that's not a standard Karmic but it was downloaded from Ubuntu kernel
site [ http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ ]
so I think that it could be representative.
And this bug happened also with this
@Mathouse
I'm *really* tempted to mark this as Invalid, as you're running a non-
standard Karmic kernel.
That said, I'm going to mark this as Incompete and ask you to re-test
using the standard Karmic kernel. If it's not reproducible with the
standard kernel, then this bug should be marked

I forgot to add that It happens ONLY when nm-applet reconnects / change the
network automaticly.
When I do that myself - connect and disconnect the network - then everything is
ok.
Cheers,
Mat.

I have seen my AMD/64 i386 9.10 system mouse (touchpad) freeze when I
move it when a network-manager popup message is displaying. If I have
another window open, I can still shift focus with Alt Tab, then the
mouse works again.
