Unfortunately I have already tried that and it still occurs, but not the

After removing the driver, removing xorg.conf, installing the driver using
Jockey (it had to fiddle a little bit before Jockey offered me the possibility
to select the binary driver, I believe I had to install some nvidia package)
and after that running nvidia-xconfig solved the slowness for me.

I am still affected by the bug. One thing that may be related is the
fact that no matter how many times you install the driver, Jockey
reports it as "activated but not in use". For reference, another driver,
nouveau, works properly and reports as "activated and in use".

Installing the 173 drivers through Jockey, the drivers worked fine for
two sessions, then the extreme slowness returned (I am still affected).

Another restart; the CPU rendering slowness still occurs. I've

I've reinstalled the drivers, fully purging them first. Upon restart,
the drivers do NOT work properly. The symptom of extreme slowness occurs
- metacity works fine, compiz doesn't.

Upon reinstalling the driver after the lagginess came back, rebooting
gave me the other symptom; the random colors and the shifted vertical
display. I've then booted into recovery mode, removed the newly created
xorg.conf, and rebooted.
At the moment, I'm running in a lowly 720x400 (not so nice if
Nope! The problem has come back! Upon second restart, the symptom of
extreme lagginess and CPU rendering arised - the only way for me to get
a usable desktop was to use metacity! Still a bug... I'll try other
Jockey options and keep this page updated.

Could you please try again removing the .run package provided driver,
