Right. The official position of the openssl developers is that different
version numbers (as opposed to the letter suffixes) are not
interchangeable - so Player must exactly depend on 0.9.7.
This isn't a bug.

There is not problem here.
libssl 0.9.8 is in main whereas libssl 0.9.7 is in universe/oldlibs. The
upto date is not the issue.
Can you ensure you have the universe repository enabled ?
