I apologize I must have missed that part of your comment that it
happened in other applications. I would agree with you. However I have a
suspicion that it is not caused by xorg but caused by the nvidia
drivers. This is easy to confirm try disabling the Nvidia Drivers to see
if the problem persists
Selecting the correct package is important for ensuring that it gets
looked at by the proper developers.

Selecting text with the mouse. dragging the mouse back and forth across
the text produces different patterns or normal and inverse text. Some
characters end up in a half-and-half state like the two shown on the
left.
