One other comment - I discovered in the code that the karaoke window
only uses the first label track. So you can work around this bug by
inserting a bogus empty label track before the one that you actually
want to edit.

Yes, still present in the latest snapshot. GDB says it is hanging in
Lyrics::Add - it also spends a lot of time there when loading the
project or importing the label track.
Which is a bit strange since the lyrics/karaoke window is not even
visible. I guess that's why it's called 'experimental' :
Can you reproduce this bug with the latest audacity snapshot [1]?
