Updating the x-server from the xorg-edgers ppa solved the problem for me
as well. So hopefully this patch finds its way to the standard ubuntu
repositories soon.

The problem seems to be solved for me - I dont have any freezes in 2
days.
I upgraded Firefox to 3.6.6 and the kernel to 2.6.32-23-generic #37-Ubuntu but
this did not help.

Since this seems to happen with other applications for both of you, can
you please let us know what graphics cards you are using? If you do not
know off-hand, then running 'lspci | grep VGA' in a terminal will tell
you what brand you have. It sounds like this could be a problem related
to the graph

OK, I think this is a Window manager issue although you mention that
Chrome works fine, I have had the system lock up with Chrome as well
(the mouse still moves though, in small jumps). The same thing has
happened when using pop-up menus in Eclipse and Image Viewer.

Apport proper permission. If you go to "~/.cache/apport/" and delete the
"launchpad.credentials" file, then you should be asked to set a
