System settings now has a System Info icon, which shows the 64-bit in
the OS type field of the overview.
Fixed if you ask me, this bug can be closed.

Quite the opposite, in fact. If the code already exists to show this
missing data then it should be trivial to patch this package and
actually fix
Still not fixed in Ubuntu 11.10.

not CLI.

- the architecture of the current system
- architecture of the hardware (in order for the user to know if the computer
can run Ubuntu 64 bits or not)
If I don't mistake, uname -a (or uname -m) indicates the current system
architecture.
