Public bug reported:

The recovery boot mode is broken. When I select "recovery mode" on the
Grub boot selection screen, a recover mode menu is displayed with a
number of choices. However, almost instantly a command line shell is
*also* started on the same console, it's output mixing with that of the
menu. Keyboard input after that seems to go randomly to either the menu
or the shell and both are therefore impossible to control, rendering the
recover mode useless.

I have attached a photo of the screen showing the problem. I will also
attach the contents of grub.conf. Please let me know what other
information I can provide to help debug this problem!

This is on Ubuntu Karmic Koala 64-bits, with all the latest updates
installed.
