Been using pulseaudio from the ppa for about a month. This particular
bug looks solved.
Only thing is the volume frequently resets to 0% on boot up to desktop
and I have to manually increase it. I'm not sure if that's a pulseaudio
bug or volume control or something else.

That seems to break 5.1 surround sound. Currently testing with analog
