Dino99, I don't think so since the last two freezes occurred when
Firefox was not even running. No more freezes in a whole week though.
OTOH I'd just noticed some upstream updates for gnash in Squeeze (Debian
testing) so it might be time to give gnash another test drive.

I can now say for certain that it's not Firefox related as I've had two
freezes within an hour when Firefox was not even running.
In the first instance I was using the Terminal and had just run sudo
grub-install /dev/sda, as soon as I hit the enter key things locked up.
It did complete if that
Unless Bryce found something amiss in the logs I attached, I thought I
should add that it dawned on me I was using the Mozilla build of
Firefox.
I'd installed it using the Ubuntuzilla repo:

After reverting

I forgot to say I had Firefox open both times this crashed. I also found
two logs in /home and will attach same. I see some stuff I don't
understand such as:

The cursor totally disappears. Also can't access a TTY by using the
keyboard.

In my case these freezes occur only if I let KMS be on, If I switch KMS
off, no freezes. At first Alt-SySReq-B helped, yesterday, only reset
button...

Well it's only happened twice and I don't remember what keystroke was
recognized last the first time it happened, but the second time (when I
filed this report) the keyboard stopped responding mid-word and the
cursor just disappears.
Then I can get no cursor back at all, no mouse pointer,
