I've tried installing 6 times now, and only once did migration assistant not
work, at which time it said no information available for import but it _did
not crash_, the install was still successful.

I had been getting the same error at Irihapeti in #43. I turned off the
migration assistant during the install (from the command line in a live
session ... $ ubiquity --no-migration-assistant) and it seemed to

Irihapeti, could you try the same thing but run the installer with
'ubiquity -d' from a terminal window? It looks as though the debconf
protocol is getting out of sync, and that debug mode should give us a
full trace in /var/log/installer/debug.
