As far as I know, it is still present. However it only applies to my
ati HD4200 and The Live Lucid CD.

adding nomodeset to /etc/default/grub and doing update-grub got X
working. I will try installing the fglrx drivers now and report back.

Just tried booting todays lucid Lynx daily Live CD and still have to use
nomodeset. Without nomodeset the monitor goes to sleep.

I just noticed something. The output from lspci on Lucid is not the same
as on Karmic with regard to my graphics controller. I will boot back
into Lucid and send the output to another computer over ssh.
