I guess that the following BR is the dupe:

But there is an explanation in it related to why users begin to get
mentioned error message. I've explained my standpoint concerning the
issue but I guess the problem will exist till
This bug affects me too.

I've upgraded my Karmic to Lucid and this error begins to occur. I have 2
monitors with dual screen mode and total virtual desktop has the size
(2048x1280).
In Karmic mentioned issue didn't happen and everything works fine. But after
upgrade process it's too difficult to work without compiz
I see compiz going down with this message when my netbook (1024x600
screen, no external screen) resumes from S3 sleep. I think it's being
triggered by a bug in the gnome without ubuntu tweaks in which very
wide bubbles pop up to announce changes in the network status.
This is new with Lucid;
I can reproduce the same thing as Gokie in OpenOffice 3.2. 'Too large'
tool tips (e.g. foot notes) makes Compiz crash with this error. This
wasn't a problem in Karmic.

I can confirm that the crashes happen when the tooltips that are very
large pop up when i hover over a variable that's a huge matrix in
Matlab.

This is a valid thing for compiz to do. It has detected you tried to
open a window that is larger than your video card can display as a
texture so went back to metacity so you don't get a large black/white
window.
