OK, no, I don't have this problem in Edgy. But it is extremely
irritating in Dapper, to me making Dapper almost unusable, so if it
would be feasible to backport the fix, it would be great, since Dapper
is the long-term-support release... :-)

the orignal reporter who is no longer having this problem, have you
filed separate bugs already somewhere? Please link them here. Pascal,
is your configuration anything like Kjetil's? (see his link). If not,
one of them should
I have no idea, because I use Edgy now, however, I doubt its a general
KDE bug because it is not p[resent to the best of my knowledge in Edgy.

I suspect you have the same behaviour as I do ie: kwin crashes and is
not restarted.
when you experience a crash try the following:
- go to console mode (CTRL-ALT-F1)
- log in with your kde user and do this :
$ export DISPLAY=:0
$ kwin
- go back to graphic mode with ALT-F7
all should return ba
yes

same here. 6.06lts.
randomly either kicker or klauncher or both will exit and not restart.
maybe once a day or so.
also can't replicate, and no errors are logged in .xsession-errors or
