Putting python 2.5 on a side, what about recompiling PyLucene for python
2.6? Should this go to Debian's repo first (I believe they don't have
pylucene for 2.6 either: http://packages.debian.org/sid/pylucene depends
on python2.5) or may this be done by Ubuntu devs first?

Please get back python2.5 as now all developers will not work with Lucid
as support for older their programs can't be established. There was
speech about Lucid that it will not have restructurization in system
side.

I concur. Python2.5 should not have been removed from the repo. Too many
high profile apps (such as Google App Engine) depend on it.

I can confirm, that python 2.5 is necessary for Google App Engine development.
You should not ignore web development community needs.

App engine SDK runs only on Python 2.5 still. Please add python2.5 to
repos at least :( That too Lucid being LTS this is very much required.
