Shimon, thanks for this advise which I just tried and at least I have
Gnome-Do catch my Super+p again. Fn+F1 obviously still emitts the same
code (why should that change) and opens Gnome-Do but I can live with

I confirm that gnome-settings-daemon (2.32.0-0ubuntu3.1) in maverick-
proposed fixes the problem on Dell Studio 1558. Monitor output
switching behaves correctly and no more stray "Super+p" is injected.

on an E6510 and I used fix #1 from comment #48 successfully.

1) Adding acpi_osi=!Windows 2009 to kernel command line (via grub)
* The best work around currently. Works for everything.
* This is dependent on the bios identifying and not doing Win+P+(?delay
Return) for other operating system
2) Set keybindings for m
Adding acpi_osi=\"!Windows 2009\" at the and of the "linux" line the Fn key
works again.

the BIOS key should do the same thing as the Win-P key. It is not at
all clear that it intends that the BIOS should _send_ the Win-P key. It

For the record, my Dell Studio 1558 (BIOS version A04) does not behave
exactly as described in comment #39...
I find that if I press the video out key just once (or if I press it
multiple times, but wait at least a few seconds between each press) then
I never get the weird injected after the Supe
So my exact description is directly from the internal only (sadly)
specification data sheet. But I'm being shown by folks at least on the
Dell 1558 this is not the exact behavior. So looking for more sampling.

I tried acpi_osi=\"!Windows 2009\" on my Dell M4400 with ubuntu 10.04
64bit and it did not work.
(In grub I hit "e", entered acpi_osi=\"!Windows 2009\" into the last
line and started ubuntu with Strg+x)
In Ubuntu the Video out hot key produces the letter "p" in Applications
like Open Office and M
HP Pavillion dm1 has this as well - hitting Fn-F2 pops up the run
command dialog, which under my Xmonad setup is bound to Win-p.

seen one BIOS that this fails on, so it's not a generic solution.
Using acpi_osi=\"!Windows 2009\" maybe better temporary workaround for
now, but it will fail when the kernel gets upgraded and includes the
names of newer Window
