I would say this bug can be closed. The performance improved a lot. i
still have some issues with the fact that it has to fully completed the
makefile hashing procedure of all files before it starts uploading. I
suggest it should hash 10, upload 10, as soon as starting the upload of

This is issue is resolved. I'm currently indexing 14GB and takes about
2-3 minutes. Any slow down I attribute to the very long running desktop
responsiveness bug in the linux kernel.

First of all, thank you very much for keep helping us, it's really

Secondly, I agree that you have "weird" issues with the metadata, which
I'd like to diagnose. To do so, I'd need to ask you the following:
* be sure to have the syncdaemon disconnected and completely shutd

find ~/.local/share/ubuntuone/shares/ | wc -l

Unless there was a network connection loss, I did not hibernate or close the
lid, PC was always open and running.

Sorry i meant my logs, not your logs. I have attached all the logs
again. Don't think I will be having 8 hour reads again until I upload a
bunch of files, which I will :)
Anyway have a look at syncdaemon.log.2010-03-20_10-06-54. After it did
its read, which took about 2 hours, it just kept on logg

It's not my logs that say that metadata loading takes 45 minutes, it's
*your* logs from this same report, I took that info from the ones you
attached last 2010-03-16.
You can check how much time the metadata loading takes by looking for
this two messages in the log files:

I'm not sure why your logs say it only take 45 minutes. the hard drive
thrashes for a further 7 hours and the only process using it is the sync
daemon. I suspect it's due to the fact that the process never gets a
chance to complete as I have to shut down my pc to go home. I have

7 hours? in your last logs, metadata loading takes 45 minutes (you can
do some follow up on profiling in Bug #476711).
It's very important for us to have those logs in order to diagnose why

Hi just a note, this is the process ubuntuone seems to follow:
copy files to u1 folder
index and create metadata (depending on amount of files this could take hours)
had shutdown PC at this time
on boot and client startup, read metadata (took 7 hours today)
client icon changes to rotating arrow

Hi Naty,
OK will try it quick. Just an update. left the PC overnight, this
morning when I woke up is was actually finished reading and uploading
files. Busy doing it's read again now while at work.
But check the results below:

In order to check how may metadata files you have that don't have a
matching file in disk, please run using --dry-run option in the script
attached.
