This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from

Tried sudo aptitude -q update and sudo aptitude -q safe-upgrade. No
luck, still fails to configure.
Installed in another partition Lucid Beta 1 which does require the -q
option. It does not get this problem of failing to configure. Somehow
the update-upgrade path does not result in the same as
Installed fresh Lucid Beta 1 on a different partition. Had to do
nomodeset noquiet nosplash boot of install because normal "try" failed
to black screen.
Install went O.K. then tried sudo aptitude update, sudo aptitude upgrade
which got a core dump:

Tried aptitude safe-upgrade and got a dump:
