Ubuntu 9.10 is (long) EOL much newer releases come with much newer
versions of postfix:
$ rmadison postfix
postfix | 2.9.1-4 | precise | source, amd64, armel, armhf,

postfix | 2.9.6-1~12.04.3 | precise-updates | source, amd64, armel, armhf,
i386, powerpc
Confirmed by duplicate bugs, there is apparently something that can make
the preinst fail on new installs (at least for postfix_2.6.5-3_i386.deb
in 9.10)
