Hi ZeroBeat,
your workaround (nouveau.nomodeset=0), works for me,
at least I can see things until the install finished so that I can switch to
proprietary driver.
(my card is Nvidia go7150m)
btw. does the final release of Ubuntu still have this bug?

added nouveau.nomodeset=0 to boot (well, i know, it's a wrong parameter)
system responds during boot:
nouveau: unknown parameter 'nomodeset'
but system starts without corrupted screen and works fine.

After Ubunut-desktop appeared i switched to nvidia driver.
Installation reports error (take a look at attached jockey.log),
but after a restart of gdm everything works fine.

Since daily-live (lucid desktop amd64 01.04.2010) first boot-screen uses wrong
resolution (attached picture).
Error message are not shown during boot anymore (but they're still in log).
When boot up sequence switches to the X display, the screen becomes corrupted.
There are portions of the screen
