I just updated to the latest versions available from the repositories.
Xorg still crashes, when I perfom a switch between users.
But I did not get an automatic crash report.

Xorg crash after failure to suspend on lid close [Xorg assert failure: X:
../../src/i830_batchbuffer.h:79:
I just grabbed all the latest updates, kernel and all. Closing the lid
successfully suspends the machine. Opening the lid successfully bring me back
to my desktop.
The only problem is that when it wakes back up there is a slight graphical
glitch in the Date/Time applet. I'm not sure if the
hadn't been solved by the updates posted yesterday, but just updated now
and restarted, and I tested the way I always did by suspending and
closing the lid but it started alright, I'll post back if it crashes
again but hopefully it's been solved.

Xorg crash after failure to suspend on lid
I have grabbed all the latest updates and tried to reproduce the
problem. Now when I close my lid it goes to sleep. It used to shut
down upon the crash. Now when I open the lid it properly wakes up,
except I'm back at the login screen, not back to my logged in session.
I don't get an xorg crash

Asus X80L, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Beta1 x86, Error also happens when lid is
closed without going to suspend mode. Starcraft works fine and nothing
happing at exit the game. Probably an error in some wrong signal to
XServer?

Xorg crash after failure to suspend on lid close [Xorg assert failure: X:
Sometimes happens even without suspending, when closing the lid for a
long time then opening (I have closing the lid set to do nothing).

Xorg crash after failure to suspend on lid close [Xorg assert failure: X:
../../src/i830_batchbuffer.h:79: intel_batch_emit_dword: Assertion
Same behavior as enceladus47's in comment #7: I have my close lid action
set to do nothing and sometimes when I come back, Xorg has crashed
with this error.

This bug is tagged amd64, but it also affects this x86 laptop as well.

Same thing here on a Dell E1505. Also happens when switching back from
a guest session.

You received this bug notification
It seems multiple users are reporting the same issue. Caused not only by
trying to suspend, but also switching users. See bug duplicates.
