I'm using terminator 0.91 from the gnome-terminator PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~gnome-terminator/+archive/ppa).
The only way to adjust the background transparency was to add the option
directly in the ~/.config/terminator/config file.

Same problem here...
I I have been able to find back my transparent background, but I still
can't define the opacity of the background, default is set to 0.5 and
every manipulation of the bar isn't saved in the config file.

Brice: which version of Terminator are you using? I believe this bug was
filed against 0.14, but we've jumped to a new codebase now with 0.91.

In gnome-terminal → Edit → Profiles; changing the Profile used when
launching a new terminal to Ambiance flips my theme back to what I had
before.
