A note for other Dummies like me who need a working launcher with the
LC_NUMERIC=C fix described by Bogdan Marinov:
1) Create a simple text file with an [ *.sh ] extension (script file). I

This is because it's a known bug. It's going to be fixed in version
0.10.5, I hope it makes it to Lucid before it's released.
I guess you'll be able to modify the launcher in the Applications menu
to use this

Could you please try to run Stellarium in a terminal with this command:
LC_NUMERIC=C stellarium
Please report if this fixes the problem.
