I found the problem. VGA Arbiter: /dev/vga_arbiter.

is where I found the problem description at. What I ended up doing is
using the 2.6.31.13-karmic kernel from the mainline ppa archive. This
is not a real good solution as it give me error
I also had the same issue. I have two FirePro v3700 (R620) cards
install. If both cards initialized it hard-locked as soon as X tried to
start. It left an empty /var/log/Xorg.0.log file.

Did a reinstall with lynx final, still can't get 2 adapters working at
same time. Both individually work.
aticonfig --adapter=all --initial and computer still crashes
i also disabled kms in grub thats not it.
