Toolbox for PDF (on windows) can repair the document.
I thought this kind of bug was fixed with the ubuntu's update...

The problem seems to be related to imagemagick, which has a segfault
upon joining jpgs into pdf.
The bug in simple-scan still persists, as it should not crash upon
imagemagick own crash.
