I don't have the same laptop anymore so I can't repeat the test. On my
new machine with Feisty it works just fine.

Johan, could you test to see if this is fixed in newer versions of
Ubuntu (such as Feisty), so we can see if it is a Dapper-only issue?

I can open a file (say Main.hs), the text is displayed normally. I
switch desktop and when I return Emacs looks normal except that all the
text is gone (i.e. the content of the buffer part of the window is all
white, the scrollbar etc is still intact). If I move around the cursor
the characters get
I'm not sure I understand what the problem is. Is it that when you
start emacs, then switch to another desktop and switch back, the initial
welcome screen isn't displayed? Or is the window completely empty? If
so for how long? Could you provide a screen shot?
