videos play for me. This morning, I find that several do play. For

That is what it seems like to me. The buttons on the player even exhibit a
mouse-over effect as it if is working, but clicking results in nothing.

Thanks. I followed suggestion 3 and added the line export
GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1 to the file
/usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/i386/linux/npviewer. Now clicking on the program
causes time placement bar at the bottom to move as if the file were playing,

Kubuntu, it seems. Switching back to Gnome and trying the BBC iPlayer again
