I think this may be related to the mini displayport. Is that the
interface on your mac mini? I have a macbook 5,1 with a mini
displayport, and it exhibits the same symptoms.
I've grabbed two dp related patches from nouveau upstream and am
building a test kernel right now. I'll reply when I have

Well, the two patches didn't fix anything, but removing plymouth (the
bootsplash program) did. I'm going to dig a little more.
