I'm using an Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller
and the fix didn't work for me--I still can't get desktop effects
working. My system is completely up to date by the way.

I just installed the Lucid release on my eee 1000HE netbook (Intel
i945GM) and I'm having the same problem: glxgears seems to work fine,
but no opengl screensavers work and I can't enable desktop effects (all
options are grayed out). I'm currently at kernel 2.6.32-21.

This is fixed in the 2.6.32-20 kernel which is already released. The
problem was due to modules being loaded incorrectly and DRI was not
available because of it.
