I found that if I disabled the proprietary graphic card and with the the
open-source all works well except the cuda drivers. If you are using
Blender, you are out of luck with the graphic decelerators.

I did a fresh (today) amd64 dist-upgrade from karmic on a HP Pavillion dv 6000
notebook (intel core-duo, nvidia go 8300)
and after reboot I'm not able to boot neither with 2.6.31-15, neither with
2.6.28-11 kernel

It looks like this is a graphics-card problem, freezing display output
at some point. The system seems to boot OK, ssh-server running. I'm able
to open a session on the console (checked through ssh session), it is
only that the display is frozen.
The graphics-card is M3N78 PRO onboard graphics chi
Even "recovery mode" boots are blocked every now and then, with the original
text, but also with an extra line as in the following text:
fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2
/dev/sda1: clean, ...
Skip stoppig firewall: ufw (not enabled)
Normal boots keep being blocked every time.
