Sorry, took some time before I could see the update...
Updated to 0.4-18 this morning and it's still working.
I'd consider this fixed. If you still want me to test 0.4-17 in
particular, tell me so.

I have exactly the same bug.
Installed on my laptop (HP/Compaq NX9030 with Intel i855 graphics
chipset/i810 compatible) the knot-2 alternate installer. Worked fine.
Then I did dist-upgrade. usplash and a couple of other things got
upgraded... now when I boot, it gets to kernel log, then blanks
Changed to confirmed because someone reported same issue

Julien does this happen with the latest usplash version 0.4-13? the
usplash is supposed to be centered and small, black around it and in it
with white text.

I just upgraded usplash to 0.4-11 and now edgy boots like it did but
usplash is still dark and centered on a black background.
