Problem in my Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 too. This happened after I
upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 ( Lucid )

Worked fine for me, after I removed the openGL libraries from the nvidia
package, followed by a reboot.
sudo apt-get remove nvidia-current
I don't a NVIDIA card ( or an external GPU ) as a matter of fact. Not
sure why this package was installed.
