Also, since the sound problem was with the server/virtual kernel, I'm
not too sure how testing a generic kernel (the only ones I could find at
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/ ) does much
since the generic kernel worked fine anyway.

Hi David,
If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstre
I am running Ubuntu 10.04 RC as a guest OS with VMware Workstation 7.01,
and are having the same issue. Once I switched the kernel to linux-
image-generic, the sound started to work just fine inside the virtual
machine. The sound stopped working again when I changed back to linux-
image-virtual ker
