If you still have the system version of lightning installed, you
should remove it. Bug 532232 is for getting lightning 1.0beta into
the archive.

Please see bug 532232 for information about Lightning and Lucid.

Thunderbird hasn't crashed since disabling Lightning, so it does seem
that while the symptoms are the same, I'm experiencing a different bug.
My last post was meant to be informational, rather than a request to re-
open this bug.

Giles, You seem to be unrelated to this bug report. If it works without
lightning installed than your bug is locale and not a bug in thunderbird.

For some reason Thunderbird now crashes with a segfault on startup, where it
crashed silently before. Thunderbird seems reliable with the Lightning add-on
disabled.
Fingers crossed the (Mozilla) release version of Lightning 1 will solve these
issues..

Further to my previous comment, Thunderbird still is occasionally
exiting on start-up. The problem goes away after starting it from the
command line, switching to the calendar (Lightning) and then exiting,
but this is not a permanent fix.

The bug 563893 fix worked for me:
Remove the .thunderbird (not .mozilla-thunderbird) symlink in your home

I had this problem when launching Thunderbird from the menu, but not from the

If there was a system extension that was incompatible, please file a
bug against that extension. We might not be able to update before
release, but possibly an SRU or a backport.

@Micah Gersten
You were right. That fix helped and everything works as far. Thanks a
lot!
I have few extensions in firefox but none in thunderbird. System was
upgraded from karmic stable to lucid beta 1 with few problems, so not
everything works as it should. Regards.

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Do you have any old extensions
installed at the system level?

Initially, thunderbird segfaulted on me which is probably related to Bug
