Yes, I also have that problem. compiz and compiz-gnome packages weren't
installed. I don't know why... Anyway I installed them, but still no
luck...

Right, someone else has a 2048xwhatever resolution and their max texture
size is 2048 just like yours but on their system running complz results
in unusable screen corruption. Given the choice between someone not
being able to use their computer at all and someone not being able to
use compiz
