It doesn't seem so because of the latest gnome-panel installed. I
have tried to reproduce it and it no longer crashes. So, I think its a fixed
bug.

Install gnome-panel-dbg, and the no debug symbols found message will
disappear. Duplicate the bug again, and this time you will have more
debug info. Copy the output and save it to a text file and upload here
so this page doesn't get too big.

This is actually x86 not AMD64. I had finished dist-upgraded last night,
and that flickering menu thing was happening. I got rid of the
/etc/xdg/debian.menu-menu symlink (which was broken). And the flickering
had stopped. So, maybe it is related to that. Because I tried it a few
