Yes, I think mplayer doesn't use any cache so it plays the file fine,
but smplayer did set a cache on previous versions. Now from 0.6.9 it
doesn't, so it should also be able to play the file ok out of the box
(with an empty config file).

Great anywhere it should work out of the box. I will try to set the
cache to 0 and see if it helps. I still find i strange that mplayer from
a terminal plays the file fine, whereas smplayer does not (mayby it sets
the cahce option)

The problem with the mp4 file can easily be solved by setting the cache
for files to 0.
Version 0.6.9 already uses 0 as default cache for files, so this problem
can be considered fixed.
