I've just had a similar problem in 10.10 (32 bits) but unlike what's was
described in post #4 I couldn't manage stopping vino-server properly :
each time I disabled remote desktop, vino-server took almost 100% of the
cpu time and I had to kill it!

I also had this problem in 10.04 the first time I enabled remote
desktop. vino-server was taking 98-99% of my CPU. I don't think it was
triggered by disabling remote destop though. All I did was turn on
remote desktop for the first time and this problem occurred. I noticed
how slow my server had
