As far as I can tell Ubuntu does not patch in a --icon option, either.

There is no --icon option in Tomboy, unless Ubuntu patched it in.
Tomboy only shows the Search window at startup if:
* --search option is used
* Tomboy is already running
* Tomboy does not detect that the notification area icon has appeared within 2
seconds of launch
