Please check that you have turned up the volume controls for your
microphone via the volume control preferences. If that doesn't help,
please run the alsamixer command in a terminal, and adjust the front
mic, and front mic boost settings. These appear to be totally muted for
your machine.
The microphone volume in the volume control preferences does not help.
Increasing the microphone boost in alsamixer works, with sound recorder
able to record by voice fine (a bit crackly, but that might just be the
mic). Increasing the microphone volume is unnecessary.
Skype still does not work.
