There's apparently no way to do this thing in a "localized" way. When
I wrote the patch I could only find %c which is the localized full
date.
Maybe the best thing is really to use %x %X which is the localized
date and time, but it does not show the month and day name (which is
anyway optional)

with this patch it apprently show the full date time on every message which I
dont think will be optimal. see the image.
maybe it should only show 'Thus 10 7:00PM'.. in normal empathy themes full date
time is shown on the first message then if the chat continue there is no time
stamp.

Nicolo, When I try to apply your patch to the source I get this with or
without sudo. Though I never played with patches so there might be
something I am doing wrong?

This theme is certainly causing problems for users about the time of
message there was another bug report about it which I am not able to
find.

eventually, if you prefer, you can change "%c" with "%x %X" which only
