Using the workaround suggested by rollercoaster returns the following
message:

i think this always happens if you have circular dependencies. e.g. pkg a
depends on b, b depends on c and c depends on a.
Then first "c" is installed but configuration fails because "a" is (not yet)
installed
workaround:
echo 'APT::Immediate-Configure "false";' > /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/67configure
Unfortunately the Maverick beta fails to install on my system, and I've
currently removed upgraded instances elsewhere. I'll repeat the test
when the RC comes out (and installation presumably succeeds).

under latest release of Ubuntu Maverick? by the way, would be nice if
