This problem was resolved for me after installing the libhal1 and hal both version 0.5.14-0ubuntu6 update (and then reboot). Even more previously added icons to the indicator applet which dissapeared after upgrade from 9.04 to 10.04 now also suddenly appear again. -- indicator-sound Name

Hi Max, Please check that you have the indicator sound library (libsoundmenu.so) in /usr/lib/indicators/3/. If so please kill the service and readd the applet to the panel (as described above). Then please attach the log file for the applet to this bug. The log file can be found in ~/.cache

I'm a beta tester for U 10.04, so it is possible my upgrade schedule has screwed up something in testing. I worked around the problem by removing the Indicator Applet from the Panel, killing indicator-sound-service, and adding the Indicator Applet back to the panel. Please, future testers, try
