So, I'm upgrading Hardy to Lucid on the .1 images this morning, and I believe
I've stepped into the bug. Installation is hung, the message is
Setting up openoffice.org-core (1.3.2.0-7ubuntu4.1 ...
I can ctrl-c out of the installation but what after that? How would I
restart it and complete

Too late for .1 images now, but since this is an upgrade-only issue, it
would still be good if this could be uploaded soon, so that upgraders
from hardy are better off.

Should this be a openoffice.org-dev Replaces: openoffice.org-dev-doc ?

Oh no, I found the bug I think:
openoffice.org-dev- /usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-dev (symlink)
openoffice.org-dev-doc - /usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-dev (real dir)
This should be relatively easy to fix.
--
file overwrite error on 8.04 - 10.04 upgrade
Hmm well I think this is the issue but the way that dir has been done is
the same as it was all the way back until at least Hardy. Maybe it just
used to work by accident?

Well installing both of them usually works so I think what must be the
issue here is if openoffice.org-dev-doc gets unpacked before openoffice
.org-doc then you run into a problem. I think I know how to fix this
issue, change the openoffice.org-dev docdir in openoffice.org-dev-doc,
to be uno-libs3
Changing it to uno-libs3 is too invasive but I can make -dev not be a
symlink any longer which should also fix the issue I think.

Bugs,
Talking with mvo directly on irc at the moment, I already determined
that just doing the -dev non-symlink won't work correctly depending on
ordering as -dev-doc files could end up in uno-libs3 doc dir by accident
and then would appear missing to the user.

Er the above would happen assuming you don't use pre-depends which we
have already established is a bad idea due to the fragility of apt when
dealing with very complex package sets.
So we are now looking into other ideas.

file overwrite error on 8.04 - 10.04 upgrade
Here is the file content data (old referes to the hardy version, new to
the lucid version):
The *old* openoffice.org-dev-doc_2.4.1-1ubuntu2.3_all.deb has:
drwxr-xr-x root/root 0 2010-02-20 05:29
./usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-dev/
The *old* openoffice.org-dev_2.4.1-1ubuntu2.3_amd64.deb
From the debian policy manual:
A directory will never be replaced by a symbolic link to a directory or vice
versa; instead, the existing state (symlink or not) will be left alone and dpkg
will follow the symlink if there is one. (6.6.4)
This leads to interessting results in this case on hardy:
In the test image I use its (for reference):
# ls -dl /usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-dev
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 Apr 26 18:27 /usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-dev -
openoffice.org-core

Adding this so it won't get forgotten... deppackage.postinst.in is added
to each packages postinst that has a replaced doc dir. If I understand
what was posted before this might be a policy violation. It has been
part of OOo in Ubuntu since at least before Ubuntu 7.10 when I took over
maintenance
Hmm this actually looks buggy by design but may not be the root cause of
the problem. It causes the postinst's to be generated that end up
looking like this:
exit 0
#! /bin/sh -e
case $1 in
configure)
docdir=/usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-emailmerge
if [ -d $docdir ] [ ! -h
The dpkg debug log gives me:
...
D10: tarobject ti-Name=`./usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-dev' Mode=777
owner=0.0 Type=50(l) ti-LinkName=`uno-libs3'
namenode=`/usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-dev' flags=2 instead=`none'
D10: tarobject ... found in openoffice.org-dev-doc
D40: does_replace
So it looks like openoffice.org-dev only needs a Replaces: openoffice
.org-dev-doc ( 1:2.4.2) (or whenever the link changed). I quickly
assembled a deb with that and that appears to fix the issue.
